Mambo - Music of Expression by Joe Rotondy, Andy Suzsuki, Phil Moore, Arturo Velasco, Dan Fornero, Ramon Flores, Danilo Lozano, Dean Taba, Aaron Serfaty, Jimmy Branley, Roberto Fernandez, Christopher Garcia, Roberto Varela, and Russell Bond With its variety of foreign influences, the mambo, which means "conversation with the gods", is a Cuban-originated rhythm with a rich history. Distinctively different in its beat and with more syncopation than the rhumba, this Afro-Cuban dance genre was quite popular during the 1940s and became part of the big band sound of the 1950s. The mambo is currently enjoying a renewed popularity due to the number of films featuring this beloved dance. That enthusiasm is beautifully reflected here in the Sugo Music Latin Rhythms Series.
